The Department of English was established at the inception of the College in 1965. Prof. George Chillikoottathil, a postgraduate from the prestigious University of Chicago, USA was among the first faculty members of the Department of English and he was the first HoD too. The Post Graduate programme in English was started in the year 2001 in the Off Campus stream. Three years later, in 2004, MA English Language and Literature course was started as a Self-Financing course. In the SF stream, BA English Language and Literature Model I course started in 2013. The English Literary Association, christened as Pegasus leads all the literary activities in the Department.
