Department Activities

   The Department of Mathematics conducted all its academic activities with enthusiasm and vigour. Two final year PG students and 7 final year UG students gained placement in several prestigious companies. Our students also won prizes at Inter Collegiate Math Festivals.

Besides their academic duties, our teachers were also resource persons at other institutes and attended seminars and refresher courses. In addition to this, the Department conducted several co – curricular and extra curricular activities. Some of the Programmes it organized are :

 

Enrichment programme

   An Enrichment programme for the students on 17.09.2018 in which Prof. Vijay Kodiyalam, IMSC Chennai was the Resource person.​

A One Day Orientation Programme on Graph Theory

    A One Day Orientation Programme on Graph Theory for the under graduate students was organized by the department on 26.11.2018. Around 50 students from neighbouring colleges participated in the programme, in which the Forenoon session was handled by Prof. CHIA GEK LING , LEE KONG CHIAN FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE FROM MALAYSIA. The afternoon session was handled by our own faculty Dr Manju  K Menon , in which various problems on graph theory was discussed.

 

Under “FEMI-  a Forum for Exchange of Mathematical Ideas” the Department organized  the following programmes.

  1. A talk on “Mersenne Primes and Euclid Euler Theorem”  by Ms Mary Aleeta of I PG Mathematics  on 25.09.2018.
  2. A power point presentation on “Game Theory” by our fifth Semester UG students Arya S Kumar andK.Priyaon 15.10.2018.
  3. Antony X.P. of I semester UG  Presented some of his findings on Numbers  on 30.10.2018

 

 

   An ALUMNI MEET was arranged by the Department on 02.02.2019. The programme was presided over by our principal Prof. Mary Jelthruth and was inaugurated by our Manager Rev. Fr. Felix Chackalakkal. Our Assistant Manager Rev Fr. Joseph Pallipparambil felicitated the function.New Ph D holders of the Department, Dr. Savitha K S and Dr. Pramada Ramachandran were felicitated in the meeting andhonoured Mrs . Regina Margret V.J our faculty who is retiring from the service this year by the Alumni. the various cultural programme by our UG and PG students.

Apart from the above, the Mathematics Club under the guidance of Dr. Manju K Menon our faculty  with the assistance of Mr Abhilash our  student secretary,  conducted various activities,  a summary of which is as follows:

 

Maths Club Inauguration

   On 26 June 2018, Maths club was formally inaugurated by the Head of the Department Prof. Valentine D’Cruz and our new Ph.D achievers Dr. Savitha K.S and Dr.Pramada Ramachandran were felicitated.

 

Q'RIOSITY

  An interdepartmental quiz competition Q’RIOSITY was conducted by 3rd DC Maths students on July 31st and Aug 1st. On July 31st prelims was conducted in which a total of 60 teams participated out of which 10 teams were qualified for the finals. On Aug 1st the selected teams participated in a General round in which 4 out of 10 teams were qualified for the final round. Our Head of the department Prof. Valentine D’Cruz distributed prizes to the winners.

 

ENIGMA

On 4 Oct 2018, an interdepartmental Math relay competition ENIGMA was conducted by 2nd DC students. The program was smoothly conducted and was a great success.

 

MATH MANIA

On 1 Nov 2018, an interdepartmental competition MATH MANIA was conducted by 2nd MSc. students which was a great success

 

MATHS DAY

On 2 Feb 2019, we have conducted MATHS DAY. Also we have formally released our magazine titled “CHAOS”. In the meeting, all teachers who are retiring from service in this academic year, Prof. Mary Jelthruth, Prof. Regina Margret V J, Prof. Beena P J were honoured.  Ms. Ashna Sheen, I DC Mathematics who won Silver Medal in M G University Taekwondo Competition was also felicitated by the Maths Club.

 

GANITHAM 2K19

On 5 Feb 2019, an intercollegiate fest “GANITHAM 2K19” was  conducted, which consisted of various competitions like Quiz, Chess, Math Teacher, PowerPoint Presentation Competition, Treasure Hunt etc. About 100 students from various colleges participated and a handful of sponsors were also there.
