Department of English
The Department of English offers two undergraduate programmes-B.A. English (Model II) with Teaching as the vocational elective and B.A. English with Politics as the complementary course-and a post graduate programme in English Language & Literature. Several add-on courses are conducted to enhance student skills and competence. They include the UGC sponsored Career Oriented Programme in Communicative English and three other short term courses, English for Competitive Exams, Soft Skills and Communication & Media Studies. On-the-job- training at H.M.T school gives the students hands-on training through practice teaching. The department has five ongoing UGC Minor Research Projects.
A very vibrant English club conducts a number of literary competitions, exhibitions and film shows. The debate club arranges debates on topics of social and contemporary relevance. The theatre club of the department organises plays and drama workshops. The department is proud of its green initiatives which include campus farming, workshops and awareness programmes, visits to recycling units, celebration of World Environment Day, and setting up of a herbal garden on the campus. A book listing the medicinal uses of the plants in the garden has been published. The publication of a research journal with ISSN, Critical Encounter: A Journal of Literary Studies, is one of the recent achievements of the department.
